The Borough of Oakland

Water Authority

Oakland Borough owns and operates its own Water System. We are now the Oakland Borough Water Authority as of 2013. We supply high quality water to around 564 residents and 232 homes and 1 business. We strive to keep our water affordable and to its highest quality! In 2008 we rebuilt and upgraded our Electric and Pumphouses, and on June 17, 2009 and October 4, 2024 our 200,000 gallon water tank was refurbished! All this while keeping up our Annual Pre-maintenance programs of flushing our 44 hydrants and the turning of all our valves. Well #2 was rehabilitated and refurbished on 2012. A motor was installed on Well #1 on June 12, 2009, by Cresswells; it was possibly hit by lightning. An anode replacement and tank cleaning was done on June 17. 2009 and October 4, 2004.

Water Leaks

If a water leak has been determined to be on the customers side of the shut off, the owner has 72 hours based on the date the owner was notified, to make plans to have this repaired. Call the Water Authority with your confirmed contracted plans, so we coordinate the shut off requirement, phone 570-396-1111. A turn on fee of $75.00 will be added to your bill. The owner must hire a licensed contractor to dig and repair piping.  Copper piping specs are: ¾ inch copper tube size, 200 psi rated piping connected to the curb box side.  The line must be connected by an approved licensed plumber/contractor. In the event that you do not contact us, we will be forced to shut your water off, after three business days, at close of business, 3 pm to prevent the costly loss of water to the Authority.

Thank you,

Larena Nickerson

Helpful Links

More links to come. If you know a link that will be beneficial to our residents, drop us a line!

In 2009 we started using an Emergency Call-out system, now called RAVE Mobile Safety (previously Swiftreach 911). This will not only keep all residents informed of an emergency situation, either in our water system, such as a boil advisory. Or it can be an informative information tool if there is a situation happening within the Boro, such as a street closing for work/maintenance right down to a concert in the park. So please, if you haven’t given your phone/contact information, please send it to the Water Authority, at PO Box 148 or click on the Rave link on our home page and update your information, this is very important.

RAVE Mobile Safety

“RAVE” is a system to notify residents by phone or e-mail of any emergency or need-to-know situation such as a “boil water advisory”. In an effort to make sure the proper information is on file, please complete and submit.
